Last night was our annual school Open Evening and it was an evening full of energy and zest and which radiates the enthusiasm of our students and staff for all that we offer at Wallingford School. It is always a joy to see the prospective students and their families experiencing a little bit of the life of our school – from cooking and filing in Design Technology, Maths quizzes and English challenges, tasting French, German and Spanish food, exploring Music and Drama and Art, undertaking Science experiments, scaling the climbing wall and a whole lot more. There is a lot to take in and they do so with relish as they consider what secondary school will be like.
Perhaps even more so on a busy evening, I love the way that our Year 7 students tell the story of their first month at Wallingford School. They tell it like it is and are the most wonderful ambassadors for our school. We could not be more proud of them and the way that they have embraced the values of being “Able and Qualified” and everything that means to our school community. Well done to all who were involved – and they must be pretty tired today!
In other news, the House Speed Language Challenge last Friday was a great success with an amazing number of languages being spoken and shared. We had an excellent Drama performance on Tuesday evening which showcased some real talent. It was a pleasure for us to host a “Meet the Councillors” event on Wednesday lunchtime with elected members from a number of bodies talking with our students about their roles and debating some contemporary issues. Finally, today sees the departure of our Year 11 History students on their visit to Berlin which is always an excellent trip and we look forward to hearing all about it on their return.
It’s been a busy week and the life of our school rolls on.
