It was a pleasure to welcome author Andy Briggs to the school on Wednesday. He gave some fascinating talks to all of Year 9 and some other groups of students covering a wide variety of topics including writing for films, the nature of comic book writing and the fundamentals of a writer’s craft as well as some great anecdotes about his experiences as a writer from Hollywood to Liverpool. Thankyou to Andy and also to the Merchant Taylors’ Company for their support for his visit.

This week has seen some memorable House Events with the second running of the House Golf Competition and the final of the House Weakest Link competition. Next week with have a World Cup-themed Bake-Off and one of the highlights of the House Calendar, our annual Sports’ Day on Tuesday 7th July, is rapidly coming into view.

Yesterday saw the last of the public examinations and I have to say a final well done to Years 11 and 13 on their outstanding approach to all of their exams. They fully deserve to do very well indeed when the results come through in August. We then said good bye to Year 13 at their Leavers’ Ball in Oxford last night while most of Year 11 will be returning at the start of next week for their Year 12 Taster Days which we very much look forward to.

Finally, we have a Parent Governor election currently open and details have been sent via email to families. The deadline for casting votes is 10am on Thursday 25th June.
