With so many events cancelled or restricted for the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of VE Day on 8th May, BBC Radio Oxford have come up with a way for people across Oxfordshire to mark the occasion, express their pride in our country and to remember and honour the men and women of WW2.

From Monday 27th April, BBC Radio Oxford has been asking people to get creative and make their own special ‘Great British Bunting’ to hang in their windows. Bunting can be decorated with pictures of soldiers who fought on the frontline or those who worked on the Homefront. It might be your grandad in the Navy or great grandmother working for the RAF. You could draw a poppy to commemorate the fallen or a dove to celebrate lasting peace.

All the guidance and inspiration you need to make your bunting from whatever you have at home can be found at bbc.co.uk/makeadifference, but we also have a bunting template and instructions below.

BBC Radio Oxford are asking people to send their pictures by tagging @BBCOxford in their social media as well as using the hashtags #GreatBritishBunting and #VEDay75 so that all the effort people put in can be shared far and wide. They would also love for you to get in touch and share family stories of VE Day via social media or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Keep an eye on the BBC Radio Oxford Twitter and Facebook pages – they will be sharing some lovely videos about the bunting starting on Monday.

Please stay in touch and keep sharing your pictures and stories with us via email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - we would love to see how you mark the occasion on Friday!

Brightwell cum Sotwell Primary School have already been getting creative making their bunting this week!

The two Christie Year 7 form groups readied themselves for a fun afternoon on Saturday. The sun was shining, the birds were singing and we were all off to watch the mighty Oxford United Football Club at the Kassam Stadium!

Some of us dressed in yellow and some of us wore flags but all of us wore our hearts on our sleeves as we cheered on our local team on an afternoon of thrills, spills and high drama. The Yellows may have eventually trounced visitors Blackpool 2 goals to 1 but we all felt that football was the true winner today.

A huge thank you to Oxford United for generously donating complimentary tickets to the school. A glorious afternoon which will stay in our minds for many years to come.

As we mentioned last week, we have a number of students currently performing at the Wallingford Corn Exchange. Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood stars Wallingford School students: Annabella, Isaac, Jamie, Lizzie and Rosa (Year 7), Genevieve (Year 8), Rachael (Year 9), Evelyn and Grace (Year 10), Sam (Year 11), and Ellie (Year 13).

Ellie gave us some more information about the show following its opening:

The opening weekend of ‘Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood’ has been fantastic for all of us. We’ve enjoyed being part of every song, dance and thigh-slapping moment on stage. As we enter the next two weeks of our Pantomime run we suggest you book tickets fast with only a handful of seats left on a few nights.

Sinodun Player’s Pantomime is suitable for everyone as in a land of make believe anyone can become a child again, joining in on every “Awww”, “Booo” and “Oh yes they have” possible - it’s a truly magical experience. Become one of Robin Hood’s Merry Men by helping Robin to save Maid Marian and the Babes from the evil Sheriff of Nottingham. Come along to Sherwood Forest between 21st January - 1st February to see us represent Wallingford School in ‘Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood’: http://www.cornexchange.org.uk/whats-on/robin-hood-babes-in-the-wood-2/

Our Year 12 Product Design students were visited by Mr Kidley from Wallingford Town Council this morning. Year 12 are currently coming up with railing designs for the War Memorial in Wallingford town centre.

Mr Kidley said that he was gobsmacked by the standard of work produced.

All students will attend a Town Council meeting to present their final ideas – we will update you very soon!

We are so pleased to have been a collection point for Play2Give's fifth Christmas Toy Appeal, "Sleigh2Give". The photograph is just a selection of what has been donated. We had four large boxes, which are being collected today.

Many thanks for all your donations!
