Mrs McGarrick and eight year 9 linguists spent Thursday afternoon at Queen's College, Oxford along with students from a number of other Oxfordshire secondary schools.

We heard a very interesting lecture entitled "What is language?" by Dr Ash Asudeh, during which we were asked to consider how we acquire language as children, how swearing works, whether writing is really language and the difference between language and dialect (very little!).

Then in small groups our students learnt some Italian and then subtitled a French/German film. Lastly we listened to a talk about the many opportunities available to students who study Modern Languages at University. It was a really interesting afternoon which gave our students a lot of food for thought.
